Manuscript Types
Journal of Applied Material Science publishes the following types of papers: Original Research, Communications, Reviews, and invited Mini-reviews.
- Original Research and Communications: These types of papers report a discovery in the field of applied material science or a meaningful advancement in current knowledge in this field. Hence, these papers should cover their subjects and titles clearly and completely. There are no page or research element (figures/tables) limits for Original Research manuscripts submitted to the Journal of Applied Material Science. Compared to Original Research papers, Communications provide a brief and to-the-point report of new results. If the number of research elements reported in a manuscript is less than 4 items (figures and tables together), the authors are encouraged to use the Communications manuscript type through the submission process. The length of final Communications papers is less than 4 journal pages. Authors are encouraged to use the Original Research manuscript type for longer manuscripts.
- Reviews and invited Mini-reviews: Review papers are concise, yet complete, overviews of recently published literature written by experts for non-experts. They should provide the journal’s general audience with recent progress in a key aspect of applied material science and be in line with the journal’s current aims and scope. Mini-reviews will be considered only if they are invited for submission by an Editor or after the mini-review proposal is accepted by the Editor-in-Chief of the journal. An invitation does not guarantee that a mini-review will be published. Review and mini-review authors are required to submit copyright permissions for materials being reproduced from other sources. Massive self-citation is highly discouraged for both Reviews and Mini-reviews.
- Authors can submit a request for a corrigendum at any time after the publication of their paper by using the manuscript type "Correction." After assessing the impact of the error, the editor will decide whether to publish the corrigendum or retract the article (if the error has led to a false conclusion).

Authors can use generative artificial intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technologies to improve the readability and language of their manuscripts. However, it should only be done with human oversight and control, and authors should carefully review and edit the result. AI and AI-assisted technologies are not allowed as authors or co-authors. AI and AI-assisted technologies cannot be cited as authors. The use of AI and AI-assisted technologies for image generation is only allowed for the generation of graphical abstract suggestions. It should be clearly disclosed in the manuscript within the Acknowledgment section if such technologies are used for manuscript preparation.
Peer review
When a new submission is received, it will first be evaluated by the editor-in-chief to determine if it is suitable for publication and aligns with the journal's mission. If the submission is considered appropriate, it will be forwarded to at least two reviewers for an independent scientific review. The final decision regarding acceptance or rejection will be made by the editor-in-chief. Editors and reviewers do not review their own manuscripts.
Regular submissions undergo a single anonymized peer review, which means that authors do not have access to information about the reviewers. However, authors have the option to choose double-anonymized peer review for their submissions. If they prefer this option, they must clearly indicate their request in the cover letter. Additionally, they should separate the title page from the main text and submit the title page as a separate file. Please note that this option is only available for new submissions.
Authors who wish to appeal the editorial decision on their manuscript can send an email to the editorial office using the Contact Us tab. Please note that only one appeal per submission will be accepted, and the decision on the appeal will be final.
All submissions to the journal undergo a thorough plagiarism check by the Editorial Office before peer review. This journal utilizes iThenticate to screen for signs of plagiarism. If any instances of plagiarism are discovered and the authors fail to address the issue, the manuscript may be rejected before the peer review process. Additionally, the content of each published issue is actively deposited in an institutional cloud and the Internet Archive.
